The Perils & Pleasures of Multiple Points of View in Fiction w/Kim Wright

There’s a reason why so many writers (and readers!) are drawn to stories told in more than one voice. Multiple Point-of-View novels, whether told in first or third person, seem to offer the best of both worlds - the innate advantages of the POV chosen and an easy-peasy way out of that POV’s innate limitations.
But not quite so fast. Multiple POV stories also require more planning than single POVs, both in terms of handling multiple character arcs and developing a scene weave to make sure one voice doesn’t drown out the others. Award-winning novelist Kim Wright, who has used multiple POVs in several of her novels, firmly believes that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. In this 2-hour class she will share strategies to help you trouble shoot potential problems of the multiple POV and make sure the disparate strands of your story come together to create a unified and powerful narrative.
KIM WRIGHT turned to fiction ten+ years ago after a career in journalism. Since then she has published four novels: LOVE IN MID AIR (Grand Central), THE UNEXPECTED WALTZ, THE CANTERBURY SISTERS, and LOVE IN MID AIR (all Gallery). LOVE IN MID AIR was the 2018 winner of the Willie Morris Award for Southern Fiction. Kim teaches at Charlotte Lit and offers developmental editing through her Story Doctor service (kimwright.org).
